ABOUT KATHY

After topping the polls in the Sept. 2017 Kamloops By-election, City Councillor Kathy Sinclair is seeking to secure a 4-year Council seat in the Kamloops Municipal Election, Oct. 20, 2018.

Kathy is deeply honoured to be serving her first term on City Council. As comfortable with budgets as she is with community consultation and strategic planning, Kathy is first and foremost a problem-solver. Known for her role as executive director of the Kamloops Arts Council, Kathy has been an active volunteer with many other local organizations since moving to the city in 2011, including Literacy in Kamloops, the SPCA, Kamloops Power Choir, Interior CarShare Cooperative and the Rotary Club of Kamloops.

Kathy's interests are extensive and include economic development, urban planning, active transportation, sustainability, personal and community health, affordability, accessibility, and respect for diversity. Kathy's platform, "long-term vision and creative solutions," focuses on building upon the Tournament Capital brand to grow tourism and the economy; fostering an environment that attracts and retains small business; and ensuring sustainability (economic, environmental and social).

Originally from Vancouver Island, Kathy has lived in Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Kelowna, the UK, BC's Sunshine Coast, Mexico, and Dawson City, Yukon. Living in other places has brought perspective on what's possible, but Kamloops is her home.

Kathy's work history includes non-profits, education, publishing and the tech sector. She is also a former freelance book and magazine editor who understands the challenges of running an independent business. She holds a BA in creative writing from UVic and a Master of Publishing from SFU.

Kathy is a member of the Rotary Club of Kamloops and has participated as a mentor with the Commonwealth Women's Mentorship Program. When she's not working, volunteering or campaigning, Kathy enjoys attending the many cultural events around the city, paddleboarding, singing, cycling and running.
